Maple Violins was founded in 2020 by our director Tom Palmer as a platform for buying and selling fine stringed instruments of the violin family securely online at a time when travel was severely restricted. Tom has over a decade of experience, working daily with some of the greatest historic instruments in this field.

Whilst we continue to offer bespoke services for those looking for commercial information about their instrument or considering a purchase, Tom has been engaged in a research project into the Betts family of violin makers, their talented employees and the role they played in shaping the stringed instrument we know today. To help progress this project, we are actively looking for examples of instruments or bows of this school, particularly those by the Betts, Panormos, Fendts, Hills, Furbers and Dodds. Tom hopes to continue and expand upon all the collaborations which we have been so valuable in this work.
